Auckland weiterhin wegen Ăśberschwemmungen im Ausnahmezustand
Sydney, Jan 29 (Reuters) -Neuseelands größte Stadt Auckland steht weiterhin wegen der tödlichen Flutkatastrophe unter dem Ausnahmezustand. Ministerpräsident Chris Hipkins, der noch nicht einmal eine Woche im Amt ist, beschrieb die Auswirkungen der Überschwemmungen in der Stadt als "beispiellos" in der jüngsten Vergangenheit. Die Zahl der Todesopfer stieg auf vier. Heftige Regenfälle haben die Nordinsel des Landes heimgesucht und Erdrutsche, Sturzfluten und zerstörte Straßen verursacht. Der Freitag war der regenreichste Tag aller Zeiten, bei dem in der 1,6 Millionen Einwohner zählenden Stadt Niederschlagsrekorde gebrochen wurden: Am Flughafen von Auckland fielen in den 24 Stunden bis 9 Uhr am Samstag 249 mm, was den Höchstwert von 161,8 mm aus dem Jahr 1985 übertraf.
Der nationale Wetterdienst MetService warnte vor weiteren Unwettern am Sonntag und Montag auf der Nordinsel, auch in Auckland. Trotzdem teilte Air New Zealand mit, dass die internationalen FlĂĽge der Fluggesellschaft von und nach Auckland am Sonntagmittag (Ortszeit) wieder aufgenommen werden wĂĽrden. Der Flughafen war am Freitag fĂĽr Inlands- und AuslandsflĂĽge geschlossen worden.
