The Italian government has not yet taken a decision on whether to leave the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) deal with China and is reviewing its options, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Wednesday.

Italian bonds face a rockier road in the coming months after a period of unusual calm, starting with credit ratings decisions over the next two weeks, according to a Reuters analysis. Ratings agency Fitch will pronounce on Italy's creditworthiness on Friday. Moody's will follow suit on May 19, and there is a small risk it could downgrade the country to "junk" status.

The Italian government scored a resounding victory over rebel investors on Wednesday in a vote on who should run the utility, which is the country's largest-listed company. Paolo Scaroni, the Treasury choice for chairman, was elected to the role as a challenge from hedge fund Covalis Capital failed to gain traction.

The phone group said on Wednesday its core profit rose by 3.8% year-on-year in the first quarter, thanks to strong growth of its Brazilian unit and stable domestic revenues, but debt also rose.

Sales at Italian fashion group Tod's TOD.MI rose by 23.2% in the first quarter beating analysts' forecasts, thanks to strong performance in China and despite moderate growth in the Americas.

The Milan-based bank expects to exceed its 2023 target on net interest income (NII) after more than doubling the figure in the first quarter and sees net profit "well above" last year's levels, its chief executive said on Wednesday.

A false accounting case against the Serie A side could be shifted from its home city of Turin to either Milan or Rome at the request of defence lawyers, judicial and legal sources said on Wednesday.

The steel plant producer has completed the sale of its assets in Russia, on which it will lose 50-60 million euros, chairman Gianpietro Benedetti told the Il Sole 24 Ore newspaper on Thursday.

Danieli is also strengthening its ties with Ukraine's biggest steelmaker Metinvest, which is expected to finalise a decision in September on investing about 2 billion euros in Italy, Benedetti said.

There is a "60-70%" chance the investment will happen and Danieli would take part in the equity with a "15-20%" stake, he added.
