Thirty people are missing and 17 were rescued in the central Mediterranean on Sunday after the boat in which they were travelling from Libya capsized in bad weather, Italy's coast guard said.
Alarm Phone, a charity that picks up calls from migrant boats in distress, said Rome was to blame, and with arrivals on Italy's shores surging, the issue is piling pressure on Giorgia Meloni's rightwing government.
More than 1,300 migrants were rescued in three separate operations off the southern tip of Italy, the coastguard said on Saturday, two weeks after at least 79 people died when their boat hit rocks near the coast.
