Turkey - Factors to Watch on May 30
ISTANBUL, May 30 (Reuters) -Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Tuesday.
The lira TRYTOM=D3 weakened to a fresh record low of 20.16 against the dollar overnight, from a close on Monday of 20.0990, extending losses since President Tayyip Erdogan won Turkey's presidential election runoff on Sunday.
The main BIST 100 share index .XU100 closed 4.1% higher at 4,768.56 points on Monday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian stocks were mostly higher on Tuesday as investors cheered the prospect that the world's largest economy will avert a major debt default, improving sentiment across most asset classes.
ERDOGAN SCHEDULE
President Erdogan will make a speech at the annual general meeting of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) (1100 GMT). He will then chair a meeting of the central executive committee of his ruling AK Party (1300 GMT).
ERDOGAN-SIMSEK TALKS
Erdogan, who extended his two decades in power in elections on Sunday, met with former economy czar Mehmet Simsek on Monday, two sources close to the matter said.
ERDOGAN-BIDEN TALKS
U.S. President Joe Biden said Erdogan in a call on Monday repeated Ankara's desire to buy F-16 fighter jets from the United States, while Biden told him Washington wanted Ankara to drop its objection to Sweden's joining NATO.
ERDOGAN-SISI TALKS
Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and President Erdogan agreed on "the immediate start of upgrading diplomatic relations, exchanging ambassadors," Egypt's presidency said in a statement on Monday.
TRADE DATA TRTRD=ECI
The Turkish Statistical Institute will announced foreign trade data for April (0700 GMT).
EDUCATION MINISTER
Education Minister Mahmut Ozer attends an opening ceremony for 1,500 village life centres (0930 GMT).
