Turkey - Factors to Watch on Oct. 20



ISTANBUL, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Wednesday.

The lira TRYTOM=D3 closed at 9.30 against the dollar on Tuesday, paring losses after hitting a record low of 9.37 in early trade.

The main BIST 100 share index .XU100 rose 0.86% to 1,429.85 points on Tuesday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian shares advanced and U.S. long-dated bond yields edged up to five-month high on Wednesday on rising optimism about the global economy and corporate earnings while the yen slipped to a four-year low on the dollar.

ERDOGAN IN AFRICA

President Tayyip Erdogan will travel to Nigeria where he will meet President Muhammadu Buhari and hold a joint news conference.

BUDGET

Vice President Fuat Oktay will present the central government budget proposal for 2022 in a parliamentary commission (1000 GMT).

EU REPORT

The European Union's executive said on Tuesday Turkey's bid to join the bloc had "come to a standstill" amid serious democratic shortfalls, in its most critical annual report since Ankara began membership talks 16 years ago.

DIPLOMATS

Turkey's foreign ministry summoned the ambassadors of 10 countries, including the United States, Germany and France, on Tuesday over what it said was an "irresponsible" statement that called for the urgent release of philanthropist Osman Kavala.

ECHR

Europe's top human rights court called on Turkey on Tuesday to change a law regarding insulting the president under which tens of thousands have been prosecuted, after ruling that a man's detention under the law violated his freedom of expression.

OPPOSITION PARTIES

The opposition IYI Party leader Meral Aksener will make a speech to lawmakers from her party in parliament (0730 GMT). She will later meet with main opposition CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu (0900 GMT).

INTERIOR MINISTER

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu will meet with his Iranian counterpart Ahmad Vahidi and they will hold a news conference.

DEBT STOCK

Turkey's Treasury will release debt stock data for September (1430 GMT).

COVID-19

Turkey logged 30,862 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, health ministry data showed. It recorded 223 deaths from the virus in the same period.
