Italy's ruling right-wing coalition scored a comprehensive victory in a round of local elections that ended on Monday, winning 9 mayoral run-off races among the larger cities at stake, leaving only three to the centre-left opposition and one to an independent candidate.
The result was a setback for the Elly Schlein, the leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, and a boost for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who said voters had rewarded the performance of her 7-month-old government.

Speaking to La Repubblica newspaper, Lovaglio said he had "no comment" on whether Banco BPM BAMI.MI or BPER Banca EMII.MI would be the best partner for the state-controlled Tuscan lender.
BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

Telecom Italia's directors on Monday postponed a decision over the filling of a vacant seat on the former phone monopoly's board, two sources familiar with the matter said.
(*) JUVENTUS JUVE.MI
Juventus will propose a plea bargain with Italy's soccer prosecutors over a case involving irregularities in its payment of players' salaries, a source close to the matter told Reuters. A hearing with the prosecutors will be held on Tuesday, the source added.
Several Italian newspapers on Tuesday said the club will propose paying a fine and being penalised another two or three points in this season's Serie A championship, on top of the 10 points it has already been docked for a separate case involving transfer deals.
The plea bargain as described in the newspapers would mean that on the basis of its position in Serie A, Juve would qualify for a place in the European Conference League next season, but it is likely to be barred from the competition by European soccer authorities, the newspapers write.
