POLITICS
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday visited the Italian island of Lampedusa, which is struggling with a surge in migrant arrivals, and promised a 10-point EU action plan to help Italy deal with the situation.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the cabinet will meet on Monday to approve tough new measures to curb illegal immigration, including building new detention and repatriation centres and extending to 18 months the maximum time that migrants can be held in them.

Unions called for a one-day strike at carmaker's Melfi plant in southern Italy on Monday over lack of new details by the carmaker about its future production there, UILM, FIM-CISL, Fismic and Uglm said on Friday.
MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI
Delfin, the holding company owned by the Del Vecchio family, will present its own list of candidates for the board of Mediobanca at the assembly of the Italian investment bank on Oct. 28, daily la Stampa wrote on Sunday, citing a financial source.
(*) The bank's appointments committee will meet on Monday to discuss the slate of candidates for the board, ahead of a Sept. 20 board meeting that will have to finalise the list, Corriere Economia reported on Monday.

The Italian sportscar maker said on Sunday that its racing division has renewed a partnership with German sports-goods maker Puma PUMG.DE.
Ferrari's Carlos Sainz won the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday to end Formula One leader Max Verstappen's record run of 10 wins in a row and shatter Red Bull's dream of going through the season unbeaten.

The Italian payments group mandated Goldman Sachs and Bank of America to find a buyer for its German 'buy now, pay later' unit Ratepay, Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Saturday, adding that the deal's value is expected to be between 700-800 million euros.

The Italian bank said on Friday its board had approved the closure of its business in Britain due to regulatory difficulties following the country's exit from the European Union.

The two eldest heirs of late media mogul Silvio Berlusconi have agreed an open-ended pact which binds them to vote together at the family holding company's shareholder meetings, regulatory filings showed on Friday.
