The Times

- International Consolidated Airlines Group SA ICAG.L , parent company of British Airways, said it has slimmed down operations and planned to fly up to 18 aircraft out of London's second airport, Gatwick, from May. Link

- British regulator Ofgem is to apply more stringent checks on electricity and gas suppliers as part of a reform package designed to prevent a repeat of the crisis engulfing the industry. Link

- UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said Apple Inc AAPL.O and Alphabet Inc owned Google GOOGL.O have a "vice-like grip" over people's mobile phones and their duopoly over the market should be investigated by the proposed new "big tech" regulator. Link

- The Bank of England has said that bitcoin could be "worthless" and people investing in the digital currency should be prepared to lose everything. Link

- Ministers have warned the French billionaire Patrick Drahi that they will protect BT Group PLc BT.L from any deal harmful to Britain's national security, in a rare public intervention against an individual shareholder. Link

- British Chancellor Rishi Sunak must be ready to bring back the furlough scheme to save shops and restaurants, the International Monetary Fund has warned as the spread of the omicron variant threatens further restrictions on the economy. Link

- Tesco PLC TSCO.L has seen off the threat of a pre-Christmas strike by workers at nine distribution centres as it agreed to a new pay deal with trade union Usdaw. Link
