POLITICS/GENERAL
(*) Italian authorities said on Monday they had withdrawn a tsunami warning for the country's southern coast that was raised after a major earthquake struck central Turkey and northwest Syria, killing hundreds of people.
Thousands of computer servers have been targeted by a global ransomware hacking attack targeting VMware VMW.N ESXi servers, Italy's National Cybersecurity Agency (CAN) said on Sunday, warning organisations to take action to protect their systems.
ECONOMY
The European Central Bank can proceed "with the due caution" in tightening its monetary policy given that short-term inflation expectations dropped sharply and longer-term ones remain under control, Bank of Italy governor Ignazio Visco said on Saturday.

COMPANIES
BANKS
Bank of Italy governor Visco said a significant increase in loan writedowns cannot be ruled out as borrowing costs rise. He was speaking on Saturday at the annual conference of the Assiom-Forex financial markets association.
BANCO BPM BAMI.MI
Banco BPM Chief Executive Giuseppe Castagna on Saturday ruled out a potential acquisition of Monte dei Paschi di Siena saying the state-owned bank is too big to swallow.
Castagna also said Banco BPM is keen to generate greater value longer-term from its retailers' payment business as it explores strategic options for the unit.
INTESA SANPAOLO ISP.MI
Intesa Sanpaolo slashed its assets by more than expected at the end of last year to fend off regulatory hits to its capital reserves and gave a conservative profit estimate for 2023, despite a strong fourth quarter. Shares in Italy's largest bank closed 3% on Friday.
CEO Carlo Messina also said the bank can play no role in the privatisation of peer Monte dei Paschi di Siena
TELECOM ITALIA TLIT.MI
Thousands of Telecom Italia customers across Italy complained of internet outages and glitches on Sunday which the company blamed on problems with an international link. Telecom Italia said the issue was resolved on Sunday afternoon.
ENEL ENEI.MI
Enel has extended the exclusivity period for talks to sell its Romanian assets to Greece's Public Power Corporation DEHr.AT until the end of February.
"The parties will inform the market should they enter into a binding agreement on the transaction," Enel said in a statement on Saturday.
(*) The group's Chief Executive Francesco Starace told the Financial Times in an interview on Monday that his strategy of shifting away from fossil fuels and focusing on renewables was in line with the government and dismissed media reports about his future.

The Italian airport and motorway caterer and duty-free retailer Dufry DUFN.S successfully closed their business combination agreement. The legal requirements for the launch by Dufry of a mandatory public exchange offer on Autogrill have been met, the Swiss company said on Friday.

The steel pipe maker said on Sunday that Benteler North America Corp had called off a previously announced agreement to sell 100% of its shares in its steel pipe business to the Tenaris.
