POLITICS
The United States and its partners are prepared to use sanctions and export controls to prevent China-Russia trade that threatens their security amid the ongoing Ukraine war, a White House official said on Tuesday.
(*) When Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni took power in 2022, far-right parties across Europehailed her victory, expecting the fiery new leader in Rome to pursue a nationalist agenda and battle the Brussels bureaucracy.
But rather than clash with the European Union elites, Meloni surprised friend and foe alike by working closely with them, presenting herself as a bridge between the mainstream centre-right and her own arch-conservative camp, which was previously shunned.
ECONOMY

Japanese tech company Softbank 9984.T completely cut the indirect stake it held in the debt-recovery firm through Fortress Investment, after it sold its majority stake in the asset manager to Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment, a filing by Italian market regulator Consob showed on Tuesday.

The European Commission is expected this week to give a green light to Rome's state funding of the chipmaker new site in the city of Catania, in Sicily, Il Sole 24Ore reported, adding that subsidy could be worth some 2 billion euros.

Italy'sVega-C rockets are closer to flying again after a successful test of their engines carried out at the end of May, their manufacturer Avio AVI.MI said on Tuesday.

Italian executive Claudio Sforza has been chosen as chief executive of loss-making clothing group Benetton, replacing outgoing Massimo Renon, two sources close to the matter said on Tuesday.
