Saudi Arabia launches $5 bln three-part Islamic bond-IFR
Recasts headline and lead, adds launch details
RIYADH, May 28 (Reuters) -Saudi Arabia sold a $5 billion Islamic bond, or sukuk, in three tranches on Tuesday amid strong investor demand for the kingdom's debt.
The world's top oil exporter tapped global markets to raise $1.25 billion in three-year notes, $1.5 billion with a 6-year tenor, and $2.25 billion in a 10-year portion, fixed income news service IFR reported.
Order books hit almost $20 billion ahead of launch, and pricing tightened from earlier guidance.
The notes were priced at 60 basis points (bps), 75 bps and 85 bps over U.S. Treasuries (UST) for the three, 6 and 10 year tenors respectively, IFR reported.
Initial guidance had been placed at around 85 bps over UST for the three-year paper, 100 bps over UST for the 6-year portion, and 110 bps over UST for the 10-year tranche.
The kingdom facesa projected budget deficit of 79 billion riyals($21.06 billion) this year, around 2% of GDP, amid lower oil revenue and increased spending to bolster non-oil growth and meet objectives of its Vision 2030 economic transformation plan.
It has said it will use debt to plug deficits, and has projected financing needs of 138 billion riyals ($36.80 billion)this year. It raised $12 billion from a bond issue in January.
On Friday, ratings agency Moody's upgraded Saudi Arabia's local and foreign currency rating to Aa1 from Aa2, citing increased predictability of the government's decision-making processes affecting the private sector.
BNP Paribas, Citi and Goldman Sachs International were globalcoordinators and joint bookrunners on the sukuk sale, andAljazira Capital, HSBC Bank, JPMorgan and Standard Chartered joined as passive joint lead managers and bookrunners on the offering.
