Updates with comments from president, background

MEXICO CITY, April 4 (Reuters) -Mexican state-owned oil company Pemex is set to cut crude oil exports as its refineries gain refining capacity, Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said in a press conference on Thursday.

Lopez Obrador said the idea is for the 1.876 million barrels per day of oil and crude oil production to be processed in the country.

Pemex requested its trading unit to cancel up to 436,000 barrels per day of crude exports this month as it gets ready to process domestic oil at the new Dos Bocas refinery, an internal document seen by Reuters shows.

Oil exports will cease in the not-too-distant future, the president added.
